Job Description:

As a Landscape Design/Sales Representative with Sunline Landscaping, you must possess superb communication and interpersonal skills as well as exceptional organizational skills.

The Landscape Design/Sales Representative is responsible for developing and enhancing relationships with prospects and clients by offering them compelling solutions to their landscape visions. Our ideal Landscape
Design/Sales Representative is a responsible team player who deems our company’s best interests a priority and has a desire to learn and grow with us. You must also be able to multi-task and thrive within a high-pressure work environment and perform various professional, administrative, and technical work in the design, development, construction, and maintenance of custom residential landscape and outdoor living spaces as required.  This position requires a very strong work ethic, persistence, and a desire to succeed. 

This position can be extremely rewarding monetarily and offers an opportunity to grow and prosper within a successful company. The responsibilities of a Landscape Designer and Sales Assoc. at Sunline Landscaping can be separated into five distinct sections. In each section, an outline of duties has been provided.

Operations:
1. Oversees planning and design efforts associated with custom residential landscape projects.
Provides design direction and technical guidance to both the client and team members. Serves as a point of communication with industry professionals, including construction contractors, suppliers, and more.
2. Maintain keen awareness and provide candid feedback on customer relationship and the customer’s perceptions of the product and service being provided, to maximize customer retention.
3. Communicate to appropriate parties any problem areas and work to find immediate resolution.
4. Produce billing documentation, conducting customer walk-through, and collecting payments if necessary
5. Prospect for new business, developing relationships with builders, developers, property managers and others. Plans and maintains adequate cold and warm calls/leads to cover market.

6. Represents Company at various events, organizations and associations for the purpose of building relationships that lead to new business. Acts in capacity of Company representative and develops community ties to enhance public image and brand of the Company. Maintains positive relations with other companies in the industry and related industries.
7. Source all plant materials necessary for the project. Coordinate deliveries/shipping and onsite layout and placement of all plant material according to the vision of the project.

Estimating / Sales:
1. Design and sell custom residential landscapes, outdoor living spaces, garden and planting designs, lighting systems and more to qualified homeowners, builders, developers, etc. that meet or exceed our ideal customer.
2. Build and maintain professional relationships with our clients, builders and sub-contractors to be able to better communicate with them throughout the project and beyond.
3. Conduct site inspections and assessments to determine soil type, slope, drainage, exposure, and existing structures, features, roads, and utilities that will affect the project.
4. Prepares and presents proposals in a complete and professional manner, according to company standards and expectations.
5. Ensures all estimates are prepared and approved as needed prior to presenting to the client.
6. Sell work within approved margin guidelines to achieve targeted job costs and profit margins.
7. Responds to all inquiries and requests for bid in a timely manner.
8. Maintains record and tracking of all proposals in progress and timely follows-up to maximize sales opportunities. Aggressively pursues all proposals in progress.
9. Maintains a company-owned database of current customers, prospective customers and past customers to support the marketing and sales effort.
10. Monitor installation and work closely with production staff regarding scheduling, quality and customer service.
11. Anticipate customer needs with positive solutions in a timely manner, assists in the sales of change orders and extra contracted work.

Design:

This will be the main focus of the position. Your involvement in each design will vary depending on the lead source. From picking up where the architect has left off to doing a plan from start to finish and anywhere between, you will take the design to the final stage for our customers.
1. Meet with Clients to work hand in hand with them through every stage of the design process to recognize their wants, needs and desires for their landscaping project.
2. The specifics of material selections, construction timelines, expectations for product performance, and any other necessary communication as needed.
3. Work as a liaison between the Client and production staff to communicate specific project-related details, layout and design intent.
4. Presentation of design to customers, sales staff, and production staff. Each one will present different challenges and questions and you will be responsible for presenting your designs with your audience in mind.
5. Use your creativity to develop designs that are unique and reflect both form and function.

Take-off’s:
1. Provide accurate measurements for existing property lines, structures, plant materials, and all other important and necessary information.
2. Provide accurate quantities for all materials necessary to complete the project. Plant materials should include proper sizing to keep the scale of the landscape, home, and surroundings consistent.
3. Provide accurate measurements for all turf, landscape planting, and hard surface areas.
4. Provide accurate and detailed information about the additional landscape features on the property.
5. Irrigation systems, pools, putting surfaces, water features, etc., should all be noted within the customer files.
6. Note all items that accurate measurements could not be provided.

Production Support: At Sunline Landscaping, the Designers are not expected to be the Project Managers. However, you will be working as a team, directly with the Project Managers from the start of the project through the final walkthrough to provide the very best finished product and an exceptional client experience.
1. Coordinate, Facilitate and Participate in a weekly site visit or multiple site visits to communicate specific project information and your vision to the Client, Project Manager(s) and the Crew Leader(s).
2. Provide 2 copies of each type of design to the production team. The first design should provide all necessary measurements for hardscape, construction detail, and structures. The second should provide a detailed planting plan. These designs should be in black and white.

3. Provide any communication that is important to the project with the production team in the work folder.
4. Be available for site visits, phone calls or project meetings as the project continues. You will be consulted with any questions that may arise during throughout project.

Required Education and Licenses

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required – Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture, Landscape Maintenance/Horticulture, Landscape Construction, Horticulture, or Construction Management. Will consider other relevant degree programs.

  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD

  • Strong graphics & mapping capabilities

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured on company policy
